Health Insurance
International students studying in Australia must have adequate arrangements in Australia for health insurance. Australia has a special system of health care cover for international students. This is called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and students are required to have this for the duration of their student visa in Australia. The average rate of OSHC starts from AUD 900 and varies depending on the course duration.
Intakes
Australia has two intakes i.e. February and July, with few Universities offering multiple intakes in September & November. It is suggested that students should start making applications ideally 7-8 months prior to the intake. University generally takes around 4-6 weeks to process the applications.
Work Prospects
Under the current arrangements, student visa holders and their dependant family members (except masters by research or doctoral degree student dependants who can work full time), can work a maximum of 20 hours per week during the term once the course has commenced, and full time during vacation.
From next year, students will be eligible for up to four years post-study work depending on the level of study completed.
